LIORA | 2

When they entered Hell, Liora felt her demon side awaken fully for the first time. It was a breathtaking sensation that brought an uncontrollable smile to her face. Even realizing that her mother had finally gotten her wish and forgotten all about her, the bitterness and heartache wasn't as powerful as she'd been fearing.
New Loudon was a much larger city than Liora had been picturing, stretching across the horizon for as far as the eye could see.
"Wow, it's beautiful," she said as they came to a bridge with a welcome sign. "And big."
"Yes, the population's around six million, I believe," her dad said. "Which puts it somewhere between the size of L.A. and New York City."
She glanced at him, her curiosity piqued. "How much of that population is demons?"
"Only about two and a half million," he answered. "There are more Damned Souls, but that's because it doesn't take much demon influence to punish them. They're quite good at punishing themselves and each other."
Liora chuckled, having no doubts about that.
"Mostly, we control the city, hold the top positions of every political office and run every major corporation, the banks, and whatnot," he continued. "The rest of us are responsible for simply filling the roles of their biggest antagonists. No matter what their social status is, there's a demon or two there making their eternal lives miserable."
"I can imagine," she said.
Even the Hierarchy wasn't without its share of assholes. Wealth and privilege certainly didn't grant people a life free of obstacles or upheavals. Some would even argue that money and status only made things worse because there were more expectations, and more people were poking their noses into your business.
The city seemed quite lively despite the late hour. The driver took them toward a wide river that curved in a slight U shape before straightening again. When they crossed the shorter, less fanciful bridge, Liora saw the small city sign announcing their arrival in Hollow's End.
It looked almost the same as the rest of the city, but there was a definite change in the rhythm and vibe. Liora noticed more club signs, and the junkies and hookers weren't even trying to hide their purpose for loitering on the sidewalks. The rest of the pedestrians had a rougher look about them, as well.
"Welcome to our empire, gattina," her dad said, leaning into her. "All of this is yours by birthright. Clubs, casinos, the import/export business along the river. We have our share of high-end retail shops and restaurants, but we have all of the other places the Upper Westside doesn't."
"Like that," Liora said, pointing at a neon sign advertising nude dancers.
Her father grinned. "Precisely," he said. "As well as the fencers, pickpockets, street gangs, and all of the other criminal elements policed out of New Loudon's prestigious neighborhoods."
"But they all work for you?" she asked.
"In a sense, yes," he answered. "They certainly all answer to me, and the larger groups are expected to pay me a cut of their profits to keep running their businesses on my streets."
Liora could barely contain her awe and excitement. She wondered how easy it would be to pursue her extracurricular activities in such a place, knowing that her father ran it all. She was quite proud of her skills and wouldn't want them to get rusty, but wouldn't being a cat burglar in Hollow's End be the same as stealing directly from her father?
That thought put a slight damper on her excitement, but she decided to brush it aside until she could get a better understanding of her new territory. Liora wasn't comfortable with revealing that side of herself to him yet. Besides, once school started, she might discover she was far too busy to even keep at it.
"Are you tired?" her dad asked. "Do you want to go straight home?"
Liora looked at him. "What else would we do? It's like one in the morning," she pointed out.
"There's plenty we could do." He smiled, gesturing out the window. "But I thought if you weren't tired, perhaps you'd like to do a little shopping. Get some new clothes and essentials."
"You bursa escort have stores open this late?" she asked, surprised.
He nodded. "Most of our businesses run twenty-four hours a day because the nightlife here is so prevalent."
"Okay," Liora said with a grin because she was way too wired to sleep. "That sounds like fun."
Her dad gave the order to the driver, then reached over and laced his fingers with hers, holding her hand atop her thigh. The heat of arousal snaked through her body, and she looked from their hands to him, finding herself trapped in his intense gaze.
"You are so beautiful, Liora," he said softly. "You have no idea how much I've been waiting for this day. I'm beyond elated to finally have you here by my side. I can't wait to experience every new day with you."
Overwhelmed by his unexpected words, Liora's eyes watered, and a knot formed in her chest, though it was mostly good.
"Are you trying to make me cry?"
"Only if they're happy tears," he said, then leaned his mouth close to her ear. "I'll teach you all about the tears of pleasure later."
An erotic tremor coursed down her spine and her nipples pearled. She had a feeling it wasn't going to be that much later. Despite her initial concern, the more time that passed in Hell, the less shame Liora could muster. It was as if her demon side couldn't feel it at all, and there were only the small remains from her weaker mortal side.
But it brought a question to mind she hadn't thought of before. "Does everyone know? I mean is incest just accepted here?"
"Only among demons. To the general soulie population, we will still need to put on a good enough show. For your stepmother, on the other hand." He grinned mischievously, his voice lowering to a purr. "It's up to you, of course, but personally, I think we should make sure she catches onto our illicit affair. It will drive her insane with jealousy and mortified rage. Especially, since you're already far more important and attractive to me than any other female demon, let alone her miserable, damned soul."
"Wow, you really don't like her," Liora sputtered with a laugh.
"What's there to like? She's just a job," he said dismissively. "But I don't want you to feel used in any way. That's why I said it was up to you. I desire you no matter what, Liora. Fucking with her would just be a bonus, never my main motivation."
She considered his words and could see how it might've made her feel a little used if he hadn't explained it upfront. For that she was grateful.
"I guess I'll just have to see how much I dislike her," she answered honestly. "If she's anything like my real mother, well..."
She trailed off and swallowed the rest of her words, still determined to keep those issues to herself, especially now. Liora didn't want her dad to feel guilty for having to leave her with her mom for eighteen years.
He squeezed her hand and brought it to his mouth to kiss along the side of it. "I know we just met, gattina, but I hope in time you'll come to trust that there's absolutely nothing you can't talk to me about," he said.
Liora gave him a small smile, but that was the only thing she could offer at the moment.
"What does that word mean that you keep calling me?" she asked, wanting to change the subject just as much as she sincerely wanted to know the answer.
He smiled, probably seeing right through her, though he was nice enough not to call her out on it.
"Kitten," he answered and brushed his knuckles over her temple beside the corner of her eye. "You have these sexy green eyes and such delicate features."
Liora's smile was full and sincere. "What language is that?"
"Italian."
The car came to a stop outside of a tall building with an actual doorman. After parking, the driver got out to open the back door for them, so her dad snuck a quick kiss before that happened. Like before, it was just a brush of his lips over hers, but the impact it had on her system was ten times more powerful this time around. Was it because they were in Hell where her demon side was stronger? Liora had a feeling that might be the case.
"Are you Italian?" she asked as he took her hand and helped her out of the car.
He laughed softly. "No, sweetie, I'm a demon. We don't have nationalities," he reminded her. "We appear human because our physical bodies were conceived by a Fallen Angel and Adam's first wife, Lilith. Our spirits, however, have always existed."
"Are we going to learn this in school?" she asked.
"Yes, I believe it's covered."
"Okay, good. I'm not sure I'll remember everything right away," she bursa escort bayan admitted. "There's so much that's different from what we learn about Hell and demons in the mortal realm."
"Purposely so," her dad confirmed with a nod.
She could imagine. Why wouldn't Hell want to keep its secrets? Heaven probably had its share, too.
"Mr. Aldion," the doorman greeted as he opened the door for them.
"Does everyone here know who you are?" Liora asked in hushed tones once they stepped inside the building.
"By sight, yes," he answered. "And soon, your face will be well-known, as well. We control the media for the most part, so you'll never have to worry about any slander, but reporters still love snapping photos of us because of who we are. Your homecoming has already been headlined in the society pages, even without a photograph."
"It has?" she asked, unsure if that was good or bad.
"Yes." His smile was smug. "We demons are proud parents, and we love making announcements about our children."
Liora's mouth widened before she laughed and shook her head. "So, were all of the new hybrids announced or just me?"
"All of you, of course," he replied. "It's just that some of us are more prominent in society than others. Therefore, our children are mentioned more frequently in the press."
Peering around, Liora realized they were in some kind of shopping mall. Only rather than wide, it was tall. She looked up at the open floors above and the giant sculpted art hanging from the ceiling absorbing the lights and making it appear to glow.
Escalators carried shoppers up to each new floor, or there was a bank of elevators for those who wished to skip some of them.
"Where would you like to start?" her dad asked.
"Well, I didn't bring anything with me, so I'm going to need everything," she answered. "Do you carry the same name brands here as in the mortal realm?"
"No, but our brands cover the same styles you're used to," he explained. "I'll introduce you to the top designers."
Liora grinned. "Excellent," she said, feeling excited again. "What's my spending limit?"
Her dad laughed, his sable eyes dancing at her with genuine amusement.
"You're cute, gattina," he said. "Whatever we can't fit in the car, I'll have delivered to the house. Come on. I think we should start from the ground up."

BAILEY | 2

As soon as they turned onto the first stretch of rural road about five miles away from her mom's house, Bailey's dad grasped her hand against his waist and squeezed.
"Hold on tight, Bailey," he shouted over the wind and sound of his bike. "We're crossing into Hell, and you'll feel it."
It was very little warning. No sooner had Bailey tightened her arms around him when a powerful wave of energy washed over her, and all of her demonic powers rushed to the surface, heightened to a degree she'd never allowed herself to experience before.
The thing was, they weren't dimming back down again. It was like Bailey could feel her demon side unfurling from a long nap and stretching to encompass more of her than her mortal side.
She had so many questions but couldn't fight the wide grin that crossed her face at the new sensations. Bailey felt genuinely happy as if she were finally where she truly belonged. No part of her regretted the decision to go with her dad. Even the sadness she'd been expecting to feel about leaving her mom, sister, and stepdad seemed distant.
Around another bend in the road, they approached a long bridge with all the fancy truss work and a sign that read: Welcome to New Loudon. A sparkling blue lake framed the wide span of a metropolis with what appeared to be a river flowing from it, cutting a smaller portion of the city off with a couple more bridges. Both sides were clustered with buildings and towering skyscrapers.
When they entered the city, everyone took notice of them. Of course, people could hear the motorcycles coming from a mile away. Bailey peered all around, trying to take in all of the sights. The city was enormous and bustling with traffic and pedestrians. Her dad veered left toward the river but never made it to the banks before veering right.
They drove out of the city center, leaving all of the skyscrapers behind, and ended up in an area that looked more like a small town. The tallest buildings were maybe four or five stories, but most of them were only one or two. When they came to an intersection with a big park diagonally to their left, the other bikers rolled up next to her dad and Aries escort bursa rather than staying behind them.
Her dad saluted them off with a wave, which they returned before taking a right. Her dad and Aries turned left instead. Halfway down the block, they waved at more people working at a large white building with a neon sign across the front declaring it was King's Custom Auto he was a demon with endless resources.
The motorcycles echoed loudly for a moment under the cover before they were shut off.
"Aries, help your sister," their dad ordered.
Aries didn't hesitate to round his bike and come to the side of their dad's where he could hold onto Bailey while she tried to figure out the best way to climb off.
"You never want to touch any metal piece, especially the exhaust pipes," he explained, pointing at them. "They'll melt the skin clean off your leg. Stand on the pegs and swing your leg over, and don't be afraid to use Dad's shoulders for support."
Bailey followed his instructions but still felt a little off balance when she finally made it to her feet.
"Don't worry. You'll get the hang of it in no time." Her dad smiled as he climbed off next and hung his helmet on the handlebar like before.
She'd already taken hers off, so handed it to him. He set it on the seat, then looked at Aries with a jut of his chin toward the house.
"Give us a minute."
Aries reached out and brushed his fingers through the pink and blond ends of her hair before crossing to the sliding glass door and disappearing inside. When her dad started down the stepping stones of the breezeway, it was Bailey's first time paying attention to the patches on the back of his vest.
The words Kings of Malum arced over the top of a snarling demon skull with a crown sitting crooked on its head and a serpent coming out of its fanged mouth to coil behind it, poised to strike between its horns. The words New Loudon curved upward underneath. To the left was a patch that read: 1st, and on the right, another patch read: MC.
At the end of the house, her dad headed to the right, and Bailey followed, slipping her hands into her back pockets. The yard was pretty big, the grass well maintained. There was a large covered patio with an outdoor living room and barbecue station. She spied the glistening water of a pool on the other side. It looked like it might wrap around the other end of the house.
Why did her dad want to talk to her alone? Had she already done something wrong?
"Is everything okay?" she asked, feeling nervous.
He wandered deeper into the yard before turning to face her.
"I have to tell you something, and I know it's going to upset you," he said straightforwardly. "But I hope you can understand that it was for the best."
Anxiety rose, dread making a small appearance in her gut. "What is it?"
"When we crossed into Hell, everyone in the mortal realm forgot about you," he said. "That's how the powers protecting us works. It completely erases your existence from the mortal realm. The memory of you, as well as all of your belongings. There's no trace of you there anymore."
Bailey was too stunned at first for his words to fully penetrate, but as soon as they did, her heart jerked a little.
"But, my mom?" she stammered.
He shook his head. "She doesn't remember you."
"No, but you said I could call her," she insisted, her eyes misting with tears.
"I couldn't tell you that it wouldn't be possible in front of her, Bailey. I'm sorry," he said remorsefully.
He took a step toward her, and she instantly moved away. "I didn't even get to say goodbye to my sister," she cried, the hurt deepening in her chest.
Her dad swore and wiped a hand over his mouth. "Fuck, Bay. I didn't even know you had a sister."
"She was camping with friends," Bailey explained, though she wasn't sure why. She should be furious, but the hurt was easing up faster than normal. As if her demon side couldn't hold onto it or the anger. "I was going to video-call her after she was home."
Her dad was quiet for a moment before crossing his arms. "I know you're mad and upset with me, and you have every right to be. But I want you to know that the powers are designed that way to protect the people you leave behind, not hurt them. Your mom and sister can't mourn what they don't remember. Your sister never knew you left, which means she never spent a single second upset about it."
Oh, shit, he was right. Bailey had been expecting to confront a very pissed-off and hurt little sister in a couple of days. Now, that wasn't going to happen. Amy was completely oblivious, happy, and carefree as ever. It still hurt knowing that her family couldn't remember her, that she'd never get to hear their voices or see their faces again. But if the alternative was for her family to spend years grieving and begging for her to return home, wasn't this way better?
