There was no gab. Slowly they rebuilt the man, made him whole again.She sounded like Shirley Temple: "Yes, all done, ready to report for duty, Sergeant." She saluted him as she would do me on occasion when I'd leave for the base. She pushed the door closed---the latch catching solidly. Arm-in-arm they proceeded back across the front of the cruiser. And once again it was for me the best time of the night. I could hear nothing as shards of moonlight revealed some details, while most remained hidden in the shadows. I would not ask her what was said between them before or after she'd taken him into her mouth. I didn't want to know the truth. I was afraid of it. So, I fashioned it, molded it and used it as a prop for the duration of our time with Tommy, but, never thereafter.Once again they clung to one another. I held her tight and soon the movement of the car and the quiet of the streets allowed her to sleep.A new dispatcher came aboard. Mark.
